Crystal Palace is where our studio is based and a neighbourhood we know intimately. We work with homeowners across Crystal Palace and SE19 on everything from a single-room transformation to a full renovation, bringing the same care and rigour to every project regardless of scale.
There is a large stock of Victorian houses in the area. In many of Crystal Palace Victorian houses the hallway is a long, relatively narrow space, but one with enormous potential. Original or restored chequerboard tiles on the floor, a staircase with turned spindles, dado rails and cornicing overhead. We love designing in these spaces: introducing arched mirrors that reference the architecture, commissioning bespoke storage that feels built-in rather than added, and making sure the hallway sets the tone for everything that follows.
Alcoves either side of chimney breasts are another feature we return to again and again. Rather than filling them with off-the-shelf shelving, we design bespoke joinery tailored to the room, whether that is open shelving, closed cabinetry, a drinks cabinet or a built-in reading nook. The joinery is designed in proportion with the room and finished to feel integral to the house, not an addition. Many Crystal Palace homes have also been extended at the rear, creating open-plan kitchen-dining spaces that present a different set of design questions: how the new space relates to the original house, how to bring in light, and how to balance the functional demands of a busy household with a scheme that feels beautiful and considered.
